A Warm Welcome for Groton's Accepted Students

Groton School welcomed more than forty newly accepted students and their families to campus on April 4 and 5 to experience classes, meet Groton students and faculty, and get a sense—in person—of life on the Circle. Due to the pandemic, this was the first time since 2019 that the school was able to offer visits, rather than virtual experiences, to newly accepted students.

Families arrived on Monday evening for a program that began with a welcome from Headmaster Temba Maqubela and Dean of Admission Ian Gracey, followed by a student panel, "The Stories Behind the Photos," during which panelists spoke about themselves through a favorite photograph. Accepted students then attended Parlor, a weekly social tradition at the Headmaster's House, and took campus tours.

Tuesday began with chapel, followed by several panel discussions for parents while students attended classes. In one panel with the parents of current students and recent graduates, visiting parents asked a wide range of questions, touching on everything from college counseling and mental health to COVID protocols and weekend activities. Families also attended a presentation about residential life and sampled co-curricular activities, such as sports, theater, dance, and global education, hearing from team captains, dormitory prefects, participants in Groton Global Educational Opportunities (GEOs), and other student leaders.

The school looks forward to welcoming another group of students later in the week. The accepted students visiting the Circle come from seventeen U.S. states and the District of Columbia, as well as England, France, Hong Kong, Mexico, Singapore, South Korea, and Switzerland.

Groton wishes everyone luck as they make their school decisions and hopes they decide to #ChooseGroton!
