WHAT: Join the International Coastal Cleanup and clean up accumulated trash at Patience Island! Save The Bay's newest vessel, Rosemary Quinn, can be landed directly on beaches. This enables us to clean Bay islands that cannot otherwise be accessed, and transport the trash for disposal. We will divide into small teams to pick up trash and record what we find. The data will be included in the Ocean Conservancy's annual report on marine debris. Participants must be 18+, must each sign up individually, and must be comfortable stepping out into shallow water - see PREPARE FOR THE CLEANUP below.
WHERE: Meet at 8:30 AM at Safe Harbor Cowesett Marina, 1 Masthead Dr, Warwick, RI 02886. We will depart for Patience Island promptly at 9 AM.
PREPARE FOR THE CLEANUP:
- The data is what makes ICC special! Download the Clean Swell App so you can be ready to record what your group picks up. Paper data cards will be provided as well.
- REQUIRED: Review our ICC QUICK TIPS document for data collection and safety instructions.
- Dress for the weather! Remember, it is cooler and windier on the water.
- Bring your own water - we recommend a reusable bottle!
- Optional: You may want to bring your own work gloves, trash grabber, or bucket for collecting trash.
- We will provide disposable gloves, trash bags, and hand sanitizer.
- SPECIAL NOTE ON FOOTWEAR - PLEASE READ! Volunteers will be stepping off the boat into shallow water, from a few inches to potentially above the knee. In addition, sturdy, closed toe shoes are required during the cleanup, and long pants are recommended. We recommend one of the following:
- Wear water shoes or sports sandals to step off the boat, wear pants you can roll up, and bring sturdy shoes and socks to change into on the island.
- Bring waders to step off the boat, and sturdy shoes to change into on the island.

- Pre-registration is required.
- Age requirements: This cleanup is open to 18+ only.
- If the cleanup is full, join the waitlist! Spaces often open up.
- Rain date for this cleanup is Friday 10/7, 8:30 AM-12:30 PM
