Nurses of Artsakh & RA Training Program

The Nurses of Artsakh and Armenia Training Program provides a unique opportunity to reach the most prevalent, yet perhaps most undervalued, medical professionals. Nurses are often the only healthcare providers in rural communities and as such, bear the burden of delivering primary medical care.

Using a combination of theoretical and practical courses taught at the National Institute of Health in Yerevan and other medical centers, this Training of Trainers-style course gives each participant the skills needed to transfer knowledge on the latest methods to roughly 40 nurses in their home villages.

The project aims to empower more than 400 nurses from Artsakh over the course of three years.

“The Artsakh program was just 12 days however I became firm friends with many nurses and doctors in this short period. We keep in touch to discuss diseases and diagnoses. I would like such programs to be held more often. And while more violence could erupt at any time in the region, I now feel that I have a more profound knowledge of first aid than I did before, and that I can handle any task.”

—Bagyum Avanesyan, 2018 Nurses of Artsakh Training Program participant
