Livestreams Bring Zebra Action to You, Wherever You Are

It just got much easier to cheer on the Groton Zebras—no matter where you are.

Groton has installed livestreaming cameras in numerous locations to bring games to Zebra fans. Scheduled livestreams are now gathered on one web page—check www.groton.org/livestreams for information.

Groton School has been exploring livestream options for several years and this summer installed cameras in nine locations. Phase 1 of the project, currently underway, provides livestreaming of varsity games and occasional JV games. Phase 2 (temporarily delayed by pandemic-related equipment shortages) will add livestreams of JV teams as soon as possible.

Currently, livestreaming cameras are installed in the Pratt and O’Brien rinks (to stream hockey as well as tennis, when it is played indoors); squash courts; gymnasium (for basketball and volleyball); outdoor tennis courts; turf field (for field hockey and girls lacrosse); baseball field; and boys soccer field. A mobile streaming unit will cover girls soccer, football, and boys lacrosse.

While the pandemic paused this project temporarily, it also spurred installation of a camera in an unexpected location—St. John’s Chapel, which allowed the community to continue chapel services virtually throughout last year. Livestreams of both chapel services and athletic games are filmed remotely, by a camera operator off campus.

The school is delighted to bring the Zebras’ contests closer to parents, alumni, friends, and other fans. "The ability to livestream games allows parents from afar the opportunity to watch their child play a sport they love," said Assistant Director of Athletics Harold Francis. "It can also help showcase our student-athletes with collegiate aspirations."

Please go to www.groton.org/livestreams and plan to watch a game ... or several. And mark your calendars now for St. Mark’s Day—November 13!
