  • Assistant Director of the Office of Academic Skills

    Groton School is seeking an Assistant Director of the Office of Academic Skills. The successful candidate will manage standardized testing accommodation requests and manage the Peer Tutor and Writing Support programs, all of which are an important part of the Office of Academic Skills. As students cultivate their identity and garner a sense of belonging in an academically rigorous and inclusive environment, the OAS supports the skill acquisition that will elevate and broaden each student’s impact at Groton and beyond. The Office of Academic Skills is open to all Groton students.
     
    This is a part-time position and, as such, does not include housing. It does include health and dental insurance. Meals in the school Dining Hall when on campus are available.

  • Chemistry Fellow

    Groton School is seeking a chemistry teaching fellow beginning in September 2024. The teaching fellow will teach two courses of introductory chemistry in collaboration with experienced members of the department.
     
    Faculty members are also expected to contribute to the extracurricular life of the school and share some dormitory and residential school responsibilities. Qualifications, therefore, include a demonstrated interest in coaching or coordinating extracurricular activities and a willingness to fulfill evening and weekend duties.
     
    Teachers are provided with living quarters, meals in the school Dining Hall, utilities (except for telephone), and medical insurance.

  • Math Fellow

    Groton School is seeking a mathematics teaching fellow. The teaching fellow will teach two courses with the guidance of experienced members of the department. Interested candidates should have a B.A. or B.S. in mathematics and be willing to teach at the higher levels, including AP Calculus BC or Multivariable Calculus. Experience in programming is a plus, but not required.
     
    Faculty members are also expected to contribute to the extracurricular life of the school and share some dormitory and residential school responsibilities. Qualifications, therefore, include a demonstrated interest in coaching or coordinating extracurricular activities and a willingness to fulfill evening and weekend duties.

  • Physics Teacher

    Groton School is seeking a full-time Physics teacher, a faculty position, beginning in September 2024. Responsibilities will include teaching four courses in Physics in collaboration with other experienced members of the department. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching physics at the high school level. Experience teaching in a fabrication lab or maker space is also desirable.

Teaching Fellow Program

  • Charles C. Alexander Teaching Fellow Program

    Groton School, a coeducational boarding school in Groton, Massachusetts, welcomes applicants to the Charles C. Alexander Teaching Fellow Program. This program serves recent college graduates interested in working under supervision to develop the varied skills required of secondary boarding school teachers. The program offers as wide an exposure as possible to all aspects of boarding school life.

    The teaching fellow's responsibilities will include teaching two classes under the supervision of an experienced member of the department as well as observation of other classes. The fields open to fellows are English, History, Mathematics, Classics, French, Spanish, Chinese, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Religion, and the Arts (not Art History), but the departments with openings vary from year to year. Openings will be listed on this page. Fellows also help coach athletics during at least two but preferably three seasons, assist in dormitory supervision one or two evenings per week and every fourth Saturday evening (or as needed), and participate in other areas of school life commensurate with their interests and talents.

    Teaching fellow appointments are one-year, salaried positions. Also provided are living quarters, meals in the school's Dining Hall, and full utilities, except for telephone. Medical insurance is offered, with recipients paying a small percentage of the premium for the plan chosen.

    We are accepting applications through January 10, 2024 for the 2024–25 school year.

Staff Positions

  • Mailroom & Store Associate

    Groton School is seeking a part-time Mailroom & Store Associate to assist in the operation of the school's Mailroom and Store. A customer service-oriented team player, the Associate's duties include sorting and distributing mail, handling student petty cash transactions, and working the register in the school store.

    This position reports to the School Store Manager and is for approximately 14 hours per week from September through June, with reduced hours in July and August. Additional hours may be as needed for special events. This is an hourly, non-exempt position without benefits.
     
    Schedule
     
    From September to June while school is in session (i.e., excluding student breaks):

    • Wednesdays: 9:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. in the Mailroom
    • Fridays: 9:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. in the School Store
    • Two Saturdays Per Month: 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. (in Mailroom or Store depending on need)
    • Additional hours as needed during first two weeks of school, Parents Weekend, Reunion Weekend, and Prize Day
     
    Qualifications
     
    Qualified candidates will have:
     
    • A high school diploma or equivalent
    • Customer service experience and a positive attitude
    • The ability to work in a fast-paced environment with high school students and adults
    • Strong organizational and communication skills
    • The ability to process and accurately record simple financial transactions
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel and Word) and Google Apps

  • Part-Time Campus Safety Officer

    The Buildings and Grounds Department is seeking a part-time campus safety officer to join Groton School’s Safety Office Team. There is no set schedule for this role and, at least initially, hours will likely vary from week to week.

    Applicants must possess a valid and unencumbered Massachusetts driver’s license, a Massachusetts Class “A” firearms permit and First Responder/CPR training. The selected candidate will be required to pass a pre-hire occupational physical.

    Candidates will have a positive attitude with very good interpersonal skills for performing work duties among students, faculty, staff, and guests on campus.

    Snow shoveling and occasional heavy lifting is required.
    This position requires 1-3 years previous experience in school or campus security, law enforcement, military police training or correctional officer training.

    A 10% hourly shift differential is paid for second and third shifts.

  • Part-time Medical Chaperone

    Groton School is seeking part-time medical chaperones to transport students to off-campus appointments.
     
    These are on-call positions during the Groton School academic year (early September through June).  
     
    Responsibilities include:
    • Driving students to and from off-campus medical and behavioral health visits (in areas including, but not limited to, Boston and Manchester, NH).
    Requirements:
    • A valid driver’s license and a good driving record
    • A clean and reliable passenger vehicle 
    • Evidence of adequate liability and collision automobile insurance
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality
    • Knowledge of adolescent issues and basic familiarity with the health care environment are helpful.
