Description

Virtual Story Time with Focus: HOPE

March is Reading Month. We inspire for our children to be motivated, strong, and capable readers to be able to read widely and diversely in a wide variety of genres and text types. In the quest to build capable readers, promoting independent, self-selected reading remains key.

Creating ravenous, lifelong readers does not just happen, it takes a village to help reach that goal. We want kids to read more. We want them to enjoy reading. We know that reading builds vocabulary, fluency, and background knowledge. So, let us do our part to promote and encourage independent reading across our program.

We are looking for volunteers to take part in this month’s “Reading to Build Readers” Movement. What better way to promote reading than by having guest readers read aloud to students?

It will be simple:

Step One: Select a book or article to read aloud  to read to the class of children ages 6 weeks to 5 years old.

Step Two: Record yourself or someone else reading the story. Please be creative, use the book, share the pictures, use voices.

Step Three: Submit your recording(s) and the following information to our drop-box application

  1. Link: https://www.dropbox.com/request/UqrheDejuWWfSTUOuYzo
  2. or by email at volunteer@focushope.edu
  3. Please include in the subject box, Name of book; your name; email; and appropriate age group for story.

If you have additional questions, comments or concerns, please reach out to Khristi Miller at millerk@focushope.edu or 313-288-2059.
